Modeling and writing algorithms for designing synthetic collagen mimetic peptides using computational code. I later characterize these designed peptides in the wet lab to validate our computational model. Eventually, our lab intends to crystallize these proteins and get their 3D structures using x-ray crystallography, enabling us to improve upon our understanding of the nature of naturally occurring collagen, a ubiquitous structural protein that accounts for ~30% of the total body protein content.
